We know that coming up with fresh and exciting content for your brand can be difficult – and for those of you who aren’t very familiar with the pillars of copywriting, well, enough said. Here’s a bit of wisdom to help you create the best captions for your brand:

1. Don’t overthink it – while sounding professional is important, it’s equally important to let your brand’s personality shine through! Customers best connect with brands that aren’t too afraid to have a little fun online, and they’re also the most attractive.

2. Avoid long captions – online users have short attention spans, so fitting the appeal and important elements of your content into a short, spaced-out caption not only heightens the chance of your followers being attracted to your content, but it also (most often) sparks higher engagement rates.

3. Speak to your audience’s needs/problems/desires – make sure you do sufficient research into all of the above, and then start structuring your captions to speak directly to what your audience is looking for, or going through. Appeal to them. Resonate with them. Reason with them. Draw them in.

4. Have a clear Call To Action (CTA) – encourage your followers to take action from your post, be it by telling them to visit your website, give you a call, pop you an email, comment on the post or even like it. Think of it as guiding your customers on what to do next. If your post was intriguing and relatable enough, your followers will feel motivated to take the next step – aka: get in contact with your business.

5. Have a logical flow – it’s all good and well creating an attractive caption, but if your message doesn’t flow adequately from start to finish, you can bet your followers will notice that too – and feel the flaw. Having a proper flow from start to finish not only enhances your message, but it will also construct greater motivation and enthusiasm within your followers – compared to a message that’s noticeably trying but not quite hitting the mark.

6. Unleash your inner human – a big mistake many copywriters make is making too little effort to be authentic. When followers are presented with posts that are more professional and alienating than relatable and authentic, they’re more likely to glaze over it than be drawn in. Let your brand’s raw, inner-workings and personality shine through! Your customers will relate more to a brand that speaks their language (and maybe even their slang – if your brand does, that is), than those who maintain a professional barrier and keep their customers out.
